Our Story

The First Date

It all started on Barbenheimer weekend when Anna messaged John on Hinge (she’s a modern lady). We met for our first date on July 23rd, 2023 at Shuffles Board Game Cafe in downtown Tulsa. John walked over from his apartment. Meanwhile, Anna shared her location with her friend (and now bridesmaid) Lily just to be safe in case John turned out to be a creep.

The Twist

We quickly realized Shuffles was closed for a private event. With nothing else walkable nearby, John had to ask the girl he met 30 seconds ago for a ride. Anna graciously agreed and we drove to Notion Espresso Bar (R.I.P.). In the car we realized we had been attending the same church for over a year and had just missed each other at different services!

The "Search Party"

While we hit it off at Notion, things were less calm for Lily. Notion was in a basement which caused Anna’s location to glitch. Anna forgot to mention the change of venue so Lily watched Anna’s dot disappear and prepared to send a search party downtown. Anna finally looked at her phone and stepped out to call Lily back.  The rest of the date went swimmingly. John ended up not being a creep.

The Crash Course

Two weeks later, our relationship accelerated quickly. We got into a car accident that resulted in John having a broken thumb and a totaled car. This turn of events led to Anna meeting John’s mom for the first time in the emergency room (and they naturally hit it off). The next day we decided we had been through enough together to make our relationship official and the rest is history.
